Art of Illustration

Thanks to everyone who came out last night for CCAD's 11th Annual Art of Illustration show.  It was a very good reception. The snacks were plenty, and the award winners were truly deserving. Here are a few pictures from the event.

Expanding Images

Okay, I mean it this time. The images should expand when you click on them. Try it out on my previous posts!

Robo-Dick Cheney

Here's the first installment of a 3 part illustration for my Electronic Techniques class. We were given the broad topic of "transformation" and the requirement that we use at least Illustrator and Photoshop in some combination. I used this opportunity to flesh out my long dormant idea for the collectable War on Terror: Commemorative Action Figures. I think they'd go over huge in the kitsch toy market. Finally, you can immortalize the Bush Administration as the black and white, super hero caricatures they've always wanted to be, with the War on Terror Commemorative Action Figures!

Bat Boy Final

You've seen the line art. Now see the final! This was an assignment to create a playbill for an existing play. I chose Bat Boy: The Musical.

I love splattering ink.

Bat Boy and Guitar Hero Girl

Here are a few examples of line art for current class assignments. I'll post progress as they develop.

Learning Curve

Okay, I've figured out how to get the images to enlarge when you click on them. DCska has already been fixed, and I'll edit my first post when I get the chance.

DCSka

Nothing new quite yet, but here's a piece I'm particularly fond of from last semester. It's a tribute to my days in the Washington DC Ska scene. I still try and make it out to shows when I can, and I do still dance with some familiar faces, but the days of hopping the metro every other weekend to catch some band I had seen 20 times before live on more as fond memories than current realities.

The flyers I assembled in the background were xeroxed from my personal collection of show flyers (I knew they'd come in handy one day) for added authenticity. Painting on collage is a pretty cool technique. It's a nice change from always working digitally, and in the end I get a pretty sweet piece of art to hang on my wall!

Look Ma, I'm a Blogger!

Here it is, folks. The Art of Jeff Lance. I'll be posting my school assignments as well as sketches, outside work, or whatever else I feel may be of some interest. And, as I get better acquainted with this whole internet presence thing, my writing may get a bit snappier as well.

To start things off, here are a few projects I'm not too ashamed of:

If anyone is around Columbus, Ohio, check out the 11th Annual Art of Illustration Show at the Columbus College of Art and Design. The reception is on Friday, March 28 from 7pm to 9pm, and the show runs from March 22 to April 12. I've got a few pieces in there. It should be a very good show.

If you're around Silver Spring, MD, check out the MCAD/SA+D 50th Anniversary Celebration. It's a show of past faculty and alumni work from the Maryland College of Art and Design. That show runs from March 24th to April 27, and its reception is on Thursday, April 10th, at 6:30pm. I have a couple pieces in that as well, so come out to that if you're in town.
